About PCAA - Prevent Child Abuse Australia

Prevent Child Abuse Australia was established with the sole focus of the primary prevention of child sexual abuse.

Child sexual abuse is one of the last cultural taboos and to many people the thought of an adult abusing a child is unthinkable. Most people know very little about child sexual abuse and what they know is often clouded by myth and rumour. It is ignorance and denial that prevents adults from recognising, responding and ultimately preventing abuse.

We strongly believe that the prevention of child sexual abuse not only requires awareness and education targeted at adults whose role it is to protect children but in order to prevent the abuse, education ought to change attitudes and the protective behaviour of adults towards children.

Who we work with

Darkness to Light is an international, not-for-profit organisation based in the United States. It was established in response to escalating child sexual abuse statistics. Their focus is on the primary prevention of child sexual abuse. Their aims are to;

To shift the responsibility for preventing child sexual abuse from children to adults;
To reduce child sexual abuse nationally through education and public awareness aimed at adults;
To provide adults with information to prevent, recognise and react responsibly to child sexual abuse.

We use the Stewards of Children program developed by Darkness to Light as our primary training tool.
