Who do you think is most likely to sexually abuse a child?

WELCOME TO PREVENT CHILD ABUSE AUSTRALIA

Do we really need another organisation to protect children from abuse?

Yes we do!

Child sexual abuse is a public health problem that has devastating effects on the lives of children.  At Prevent Child Abuse Australia we believe that child sexual abuse can be prevented, or at least its incidence can be significantly reduced.

While there are many organisations that deal with child abuse there are none that focus on the primary prevention of child sexual abuse i.e. preventing child sexual abuse before it occurs.

Protecting children from sexual assault is largely incorporated within services that deal with all forms of child abuse, domestic violence and sexual assault of all ages and primary prevention of child sexual abuse is ‘slipping through the cracks' and is largely overlooked.

Research informs us that adults who are responsible for children do not do enough to protect them from sexual abuse due to;

  • Low awareness of the prevalence, consequences and circumstances of child sexual abuse.
  • Limited knowledge of steps and actions to protect children from sexual abuse.
  • Reluctance to take action in response to suspicions of abuse
